I had something of an update on this which enlightened me some. When I was interviewing a mechanic here (he's from Jersey) for the local paper, he happened to mention that my vehicle wouldn't pass up there due to the exhaust sounding "loud-ish". He told me quite a bit of what Jersey was like, with strict air quality emission control and how older vehicles would always be pounced upon by the emission cops . Then it dawned on me that electric vehicles would bypass this whole problem, leaving those emission cops scratching their heads in confusion.
